Moscow Speaks: The Middle East is on fire! - 1

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked to comment today on US President Donald Trump's threats against Iran, said that the level of tension in the Middle East continues to increase and that the entire region “is on fire“, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

“We note that the level of tension in the region continues to grow. In fact, the entire region is on fire. The negative consequences of the aggression unleashed against Iran are dangerous. The geography of the conflict is expanding and now we are all seeing the consequences," Peskov said, quoted by TASS.

At the same time, he said that explosives found near the pipeline in Serbia that carries Russian gas to Hungary were potentially very dangerous and expressed hope that Budapest and Belgrade would act to deal with the threat.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called an emergency meeting of the Defense Council yesterday after explosives were found near the "Turkish Stream" pipeline in Serbia. Orban said that Ukraine had been trying to cut off Europe from Russian energy sources for years, although he did not directly blame Kiev for the incident. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry rejected any attempt to link the explosive incident to Kiev.

Peskov said it was not yet clear who was behind the incident, but added that Russia knew that Ukraine had carried out acts of sabotage against critical infrastructure in the past and added that it was very likely that evidence linking the incident to Ukraine would be uncovered.
