A high-speed train driver died after the train he was driving collided with a heavy goods vehicle between the cities of Lens and Bethune in northern France. Thirteen people were injured, two of them seriously, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais department, BTA reports.
The accident occurred at 07:00 local time (08:00 Bulgarian time) while the train was passing through a railway crossing, SNCF said.
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabaro wrote on the social network Ex that he would visit the scene of the accident together with the managing director of the railways, Jean Castex.
Neither the French railways nor the prefecture specified what the circumstances were that led to the accident.
SNCF stressed that train traffic between Bethune and Lens would be suspended at least until this evening.
