Russia welcomes the two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran, reports "Reuters".
It expressed hope that the United States will now have the time and opportunity to resume trilateral peace talks on Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "We learned the news of the ceasefire with satisfaction. We welcome the decision not to continue down the path of armed escalation."
When asked if the ceasefire in Iran could facilitate new talks on Ukraine, he said: "We hope that in the foreseeable future the United States will have more time and a greater opportunity to meet in a trilateral format," referring to the talks held between Russia, Ukraine and the United States.
Moscow has previously said that peace talks on Ukraine were suspended after the outbreak of hostilities in Iran.
The talks began last year in Istanbul, and trilateral talks with the United States were held earlier this year in Abu Dhabi and Geneva.
Progress has been slow, however, largely due to the inability to reach a consensus on territory. Russia demands that Ukraine give up the rest of Donbas, but Kiev does not want to hand over land that Moscow's forces have failed to seize for more than four years.
