Trump on today's talks with Iran: No nuclear weapons! This is the first - 1

The key US demand in the upcoming talks with Iran will be that Tehran not acquire nuclear weapons, US President Donald Trump told reporters.

“No nuclear weapons. This is the first thing“, he said, answering a question about what he thought were the criteria for a “good deal“ with Iran. “No nuclear weapons. This is 99% for us“, the American leader added.

The talks between the Iranian and American delegations in Islamabad are expected to take place in two formats – direct and indirect, CNN reports, citing sources.

According to them, the agenda for the talks will likely be approved by the US and Iran through Pakistani representatives acting as mediators, after which the parties will move to direct negotiations in personal meetings later in the day.

„The Washington Post“ has learned that US negotiators will ask Iran to release the detained Americans. According to the sources of the publication, "it is not clear how much pressure" the Trump administration will put on Tehran to release the detained Americans, but some have expressed concern that this demand could be delayed if the talks fail.

An Iranian delegation has already arrived in Islamabad. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is leading the delegation, said Tehran would respond if Washington misled it in the upcoming talks in Islamabad.

On April 8, the US and Iranian governments agreed to a two-week ceasefire. The talks are scheduled for Saturday, April 11, in Pakistan. Both sides have already presented their positions. Washington presented a program calling for the lifting of sanctions and the opening of the strait. Tehran presented a plan calling for control of the strait and an end to all military operations in the region. Before the meeting, both sides accused each other of violating preliminary agreements.
