Britain will not participate in the US military mission to block the Strait of Hormuz - 1

The UK will not participate in the US military mission to block the Strait of Hormuz, Sky News reported.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced that US and other naval forces would begin a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Although London supports freedom of navigation, the government has chosen to distance itself from the US military strategy under Donald Trump.

London is actively working with France and other international partners to build a broad coalition to ensure the security of shipping through diplomacy and coordinated efforts, rather than by directly participating in the US blockade.

A government spokesman stressed to Sky News that opening the strait is urgently needed to support the global economy and control the cost of living, but the UK will not allow the imposition of “taxes“ or blocking passage in the area.

Despite refusing to participate directly in the blockade, the UK has previously allowed the US to use British bases (such as Diego Garcia) for limited defensive operations to protect against Iranian missiles.

The UK is leading a group of more than 40 countries (including Bulgaria) seeking ways to peacefully restore traffic through the strait through UN pressure and possible economic sanctions on Iran.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer is adamant that the country will not be drawn into the growing military conflict between the US and Iran, despite Washington's insistence on a greater military contribution from its allies.
