The referendum on the problems in Romania's judicial system will be held no later than a month, President Nikusor Dan said in an interview with Europa FM. He also informed the media outlet that the report on the annulment of the country's 2024 presidential elections will be made public this year, BTA reported.

„Romania has undoubtedly been a target of Russian hybrid warfare for at least 10 years, and Calin Georgescu was supported by an infrastructure created by the Russian Federation“, the head of state commented.

During the interview, he also touched on other topical topics. Asked whether he was siding with Prime Minister Ilie Bolognese in the dispute with the Social Democratic Party, which intends to withdraw its political support for him, the Romanian president replied that he was trying to maintain his role as a mediator in the conflict.

„In a period in which most of the supporters of these parties feel strong emotions towards their partners in the government, I am trying to mediate because ultimately a coalition between these same parties must be achieved in order to govern Romania. There is no other option. We must move the country forward," said Nikusor Dan.

According to him, the country is currently at the beginning of a political crisis and the answer to this crisis will come from the two major parties involved - the Social Democratic and the National Liberal.

„Of course, I am considering all possible scenarios for the coming weeks. But I do not have the constitutional authority to intervene in some of these scenarios. What happens next depends on the parties in the coalition, not on me. At a certain point, when it depends on me, I will propose a balanced solution, without a doubt,” Nikusor Dan noted.

He was also asked to comment on the possible political future of Laura Codruta Kövesi, the current European prosecutor, whose mandate expires this autumn. When asked if he expected her to get involved in domestic politics, the president replied: “This is her choice, she has gained knowledge and experience, we will see how she wants to use it.”
