An unknown man opened fire on tourists at the Teotihuacan archaeological site in Mexico and then committed suicide.
A Canadian citizen was killed in the shooting, and the number of injured is 13, the Mexican government's security office said.
“Following the unfortunate events that occurred in Teotihuacan, protocols for assistance and interdepartmental coordination were immediately activated to transport the 13 injured people of different nationalities, who were treated in different hospitals in the region,“ the office said in a statement.
According to a published information sheet, tourists from Colombia, Canada, Russia, Brazil and the United States are among the injured. Their ages range from 6 to 61.
Following the incident, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ordered a thorough investigation into the tragedy and all necessary support for the victims and their families.
