The upcoming summer “will be difficult for Europe” due to possible fuel shortages caused by the war with Iran and restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, said European Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
According to him, the European Union is already preparing measures to limit the effects on jet fuel supplies. Among the options discussed is the possibility of redistributing and sharing available resources between member states.
Jørgensen stressed that even in the most favorable development of the situation, tensions in the Middle East will continue to have an impact on the energy market.
Meanwhile, European airlines have already warned of the risk of shortages in the coming weeks, as the key supply route through the Strait of Hormuz remains difficult. About 75% of jet fuel destined for Europe from the region passes through it.
