Kallas: EU may ban entry into European countries of Russians who fought against Ukraine - 1

EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Kaia Kallas said that Russian citizens who fought against Ukraine may be banned from entering the European Union, according to information on the website of the European External Action Service, UNIAN reports.

It is indicated that a corresponding proposal will be presented at the meeting of the European Council scheduled for June this year.

„Ultimately, by the meeting of the European Council in June, we will prepare proposals to restrict the entry into the European Union of former Russian fighters“, said Kallas.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga welcomed Kallas' statement on social networks.

„This is a timely and long-awaited step that will show every Russian that by signing an agreement for participating in the criminal, aggressive war against Ukraine, they simultaneously sign a ban on entering Europe“, Sibega noted.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, such a ban on Russians would be fair, since people fighting against European countries should not be able to travel freely within the EU.

“I call on all EU member states to support this extremely important measure“, Sibega wrote.
