In Kiev! Prince Harry called on Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine - 1

Prince Harry, who arrived in Kiev today for a surprise visit, called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the more than four-year-old war in Ukraine, while also inviting the United States to play a leading role in the negotiations, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.

The younger son of British King Charles III has already visited Ukraine twice to express his support for Ukrainians who have been fighting against the Russian invasion since February 2022 – the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II.

During his speech at the Kiev Security Forum, in the presence of journalists including AFP, he addressed the Russian president directly.

"President Putin, no country is benefiting from the continuing human toll that we are witnessing. There is still time to end this war. To prevent further suffering for both Ukrainians and Russians, and to choose another path," the prince said.

The Duke of Sussex also called on the United States to play a leading role at a time when American mediation between Kiev and Moscow has been suspended since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East in late February.

"This is the moment for the American government – "It is time for America to show that it can honour its international treaty obligations, not out of charity but because of its enduring role in global security and strategic stability," he said.

The prince also praised Ukraine as an example of "statesmanship" and "social unity".

"The Ukrainian people have achieved something extraordinary. You have adapted, you have persevered and you have not given up," the Duke of Sussex said.

The Ukrainian Centre for Combating Disinformation, as well as railway authorities, earlier posted a video on social media showing Prince Harry getting off a train in the Ukrainian capital.
