The Internet outages in large cities are related to activities to prevent terrorist acts.
This was stated by President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with members of the government, quoted by RIA Novosti.
"Of course, if this is related to operational activities to prevent terrorist acts - and we know that, unfortunately, we sometimes miss such attacks - of course, ensuring people's safety will always be a priority," he said.
The head of state added that in such cases the responsible services should warn the population about the measures taken, although he noted that widespread information could harm operational actions.
He concluded that it is worth informing the population at least for the results of the work done.
Russian cities regularly face restrictions on mobile communication and the Internet.
In March, mobile Internet in Moscow worked unstable for more than two weeks.
Mobile operators began sending their customers in Moscow notifications about possible temporary restrictions, explaining them by "ensuring safety".
