The Wall Street Journal: White House skeptical of Iran's new plan, preparing counterproposal - 1

US President Donald Trump and his national security team are expressing skepticism about Iran's three-stage negotiation plan, and Washington will make a counterproposal in the coming days, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed US administration officials.

According to the report, the head of state did not directly reject Tehran's proposal, but said he believes Iran is unwilling to fulfill Washington's key demand to give up uranium enrichment.

The United States, the newspaper notes, will continue negotiations with Iran and intends to present its response and counterproposals to the Islamic Republic's plan in the coming days.

Earlier, Al Mayadeen TV reported that Iran has presented the mediators with a three-stage plan under which it is ready to negotiate with the United States. According to the report, the Iranian side demands that the first phase of the negotiations "focus on ending the war and obtaining guarantees" that military action against Iran and Lebanon will not be resumed.

The second stage of the discussions is expected to focus on the management of the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the conflict.

The third stage, in accordance with Iran's proposal, will deal with Tehran's nuclear file. It is emphasized that the Iranian side refuses to discuss this issue without reaching an agreement on the previous two issues.
