The Daily Telegraph: NATO countries have not discussed possible reduction of US military in Germany - 1

NATO member countries are not discussing the possibility of reducing the US military presence in Germany, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported, citing sources in the alliance.

On April 29, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington was considering reducing the military contingent stationed in Germany. The Daily Telegraph believes that the American leader made this statement in response to comments by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that "Iran is humiliating the US with its negotiating tactics".

According to the newspaper, the North Atlantic Council - NATO's main political decision-making body - has not held any discussions on reducing the US contingent in Germany. Neither Berlin nor Washington has signaled such a development.

However, the newspaper's sources indicate that in the event of a partial withdrawal of troops, the US could redirect them to Greenland, Romania, Poland or countries in the Middle East.
