The leader of the „Tisza“ party; Peter Magyar, who is preparing to lead the new Hungarian government, has nominated his son-in-law, Márton Meletey-Barna, for the post of justice minister.
According to M1 television, his candidacy, due to his family ties to the future prime minister, has sparked public debate and accusations of nepotism against Magyar.
„I have asked the legal director of the „Tisza“ party; Márton Meletey-Barna to head the justice ministry. Márton Meletey-Barna has worked as a lawyer for the past two decades,“ Madzhar wrote on Facebook.
The leader of the „Tisza“ did not mention that the candidate in question is his relative. In September 2025, Meletey-Barna married Magyar's sister, which was announced by the Hungarian media.
Magyar has completed the nomination of candidates for all positions in his future government. On May 9, he will be elected prime minister at the first session of the new parliament. His party “Tisa“ won the parliamentary elections held in Hungary on April 12.
Current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party “Fidesz“ - Hungarian Civic Union will remain in opposition after 16 years of continuous rule.
