The number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday fell to its lowest level in several weeks, maritime traffic data showed, as fresh US-Iranian tensions and attacks on ships in the Middle East heighten security concerns, BTA reported.
Six ships passed through the strait yesterday, according to vessel tracking data from Kpler — the lowest number in five weeks. Among the tankers that left the strait was the supertanker "Humanity", loaded with 2 million barrels of Iranian oil, as well as the tanker "Captain Andreas", carrying about 500,000 barrels of petroleum products from Kuwait. Three empty tankers entered the Gulf to load oil. Most of the tankers turned off their transponders as they passed through the strait.
No LNG tankers were visible in tracking data over the weekend.
A tanker controlled by Abu Dhabi National Oil Co left the strait between July 10 and 12, Kpler data showed. The ship is headed for the Indian port of Dahej.
U.S. forces launched a new series of strikes against Iran on Sunday, hitting dozens of targets in various locations with precision munitions, the Central Command said. US President Donald Trump said the same day that the Strait of Hormuz was open to commercial traffic, despite Iran earlier saying it had closed it after a ship sailed illegally and was hit.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said today that its navy had stopped two ships in the Strait of Hormuz overnight. Their names were not released.
