President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that during the Russian shelling of Kiev and its surroundings on August 20, about 90% of the cruise missiles were shot down, the BBC reported.
"The strike was combined: a lot of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, there were also drones. Unfortunately, the most difficult thing right now is with ballistic missiles. If the percentage of cruise missiles shot down in this strike is about 90%, then the situation with ballistic missiles is significantly worse," Zelensky admitted in his evening address.
The Ukrainian president specified that as a result of the Russian strike, over 200 objects were damaged, including 86 residential buildings, a children's hospital, social infrastructure and commercial facilities.
"We will definitely respond to this Russian strike, as well as to other Russian strikes — we will respond completely fairly and with a long-term effect. Ukrainian long-range missile forces will receive even more resources," — the Ukrainian president promised.
On Thursday night, the Russian military attacked Kiev with ballistic missiles and drones. 15 people were killed, Ukrainian authorities reported.
On Thursday evening, Kiev was attacked again — in the Goloseevsky district, a business center was hit by a drone, one person died as a result of the attack, the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, announced.
