Omsk: Fourth death and arrest for the construction tragedy
The death toll from a major fire at a construction site in Omsk that broke out on August 15 has officially risen to four. Another seriously injured worker, who was transported for specialized treatment, died in a hospital in Nizhny Novgorod, the regional Ministry of Health said. Seven more people remain in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred during welding work, when thermal insulation caught fire in a residential complex under construction. The Russian Investigative Committee has already taken strict measures, detaining the deputy general director of the subcontractor company for gross violation of safety regulations.
St. Petersburg: Firefighters fight fire in Shushary
Meanwhile, on the night of August 23, a large-scale fire broke out in the Pushkin district of St. Petersburg. The fire engulfed a warehouse complex with an area of a record 82,000 square meters, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES). The incident occurred in the Shushary industrial zone, in close proximity to logistics centers of large online platforms. The MES reported serious difficulties in controlling the fire due to the huge amount of flammable goods and the scale of the building. The fire was localized at around 09:48 local time after the danger level was lowered, ura.news reported. Investigative authorities are still investigating the causes of the incident, and there is no official data on a drone attack in this specific area.
