It is planned that on December 22, the sixth unit of the Kozloduy NPP will be shut down due to a failure of a protective membrane device of a steam superheater separator of the turbine, it became clear from a statement on the plant's website.
The failure occurred during the operation of the unit, which was shut down on December 15 to replace an identical safety device.
The nuclear power plant teams have backup safety devices that will undergo independent external inspections and tests before being installed. All repair activities are planned in accordance with the current technical maintenance instructions and are carried out with the necessary high quality.
The steam that is released into the atmosphere is a product of purified water from the steam superheater separator of the turbine located in the conventional, non-nuclear part of the unit. There is no release of pollutants into the environment.
After the necessary repair work is completed, the sixth unit will be included in the country's energy system. The fifth unit is operating according to schedule.
