New drone surfaced near Varna: Navy on full alert - 1

A new unmanned aerial vehicle surfaced on a beach near Varna, prompting an immediate response from the competent authorities. The discovery comes less than a day after two other similar objects were located and neutralized on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

A lightning-fast operation by the Navy and the police

The report of the drone thrown from the sea was filed in the afternoon hours of this Sunday. Employees of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Varna and a specialized team from the Naval Base - Varna were immediately sent to the site. The area was cordoned off in a timely manner to ensure the safety of beachgoers and tourists at the peak of the summer season.

According to the initial official information of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (source: bta.bg/bg/news/bulgaria/regional-news/1190186-ostanki-ot-dron-byaha-otkriti-na-plazha-mezhdu-kranevo-i-albena), military experts are implementing a strictly prescribed protocol of action. The site is being examined for the presence of explosives, after which it will be transported for subsequent expert analysis.

Chronology of the incidents: Series of decoy drones

This is another case within the last 36 hours that has mobilized the Naval Forces (Navy). We recall that just a day earlier, on August 22, parts of two other devices were found:

  • Location 1: The beach strip between the resort complex “Albena“ and the village of Kranevo, where a decoy drone without a warhead was found.
  • Location 2: The “Rakitnika“ and the beach under the "Chernomorets" hut in the southern part of Varna.

Navy experts have already classified the previous findings as "decoy" drones, which do not have explosives on board and serve to deceive radar systems in the zone of military conflict in the Black Sea. More details about the technical characteristics and the operation to collect them were announced on the air of the Bulgarian National Radio (source: bnrnews.bg/varna/post/518772/signal-za-otkrit-vtori-dron-kray-varna).

Is there a danger to citizens on the Black Sea coast?

The Ministry of Defense and the Navy assure that there is currently no direct danger to the population and tourists on the Bulgarian coast. All found parts are stored in the Navy units in Varna, where their origin is being identified. Citizens are urged not to approach suspicious objects on the beaches, but to immediately report them to 112.
