„Figuratively speaking, Bulgaria is already minting Euro coins - Bulgarian, and some people are protesting. This is strange to say the least“. This was said in an interview for the program „This Saturday and Sunday“ on bTV by PP-DB MP Yavor Bozhankov in response to the question proposed by President Rumen Radev for a referendum -
„Do you agree that Bulgaria should adopt the single European currency, the euro, in 2026?“
Radev announced that he will request a referendum on Bulgaria's entry into the Eurozone with an address to the people and the National Assembly on May 9, when in the European Union we celebrate Europe Day, and in Russia - Victory Day (День victories).
A new protest against the adoption of the euro is also being organized today by the “Vazrazhdane“ party.
“The same people – the “Vazrazhdane“ party, recently said that if we enter Schengen, we will become “the largest emigrant ghetto in the world“. We entered Schengen, we saw that we travel freely, Bulgarian business wins because it does not wait at the borders, and nothing terrible happened. The same people a few months later said: “If we adopt the euro, prices will jump by two, they will steal our foreign exchange reserves, Bulgaria will save countries much richer than us“, commented Bozhankov.
Regarding the claims that prices from leva will automatically be converted to euros, he announced that there are people who believe that the land is flat.
The PP-DB MP also recalled that months ago Rumen Radev announced that a referendum on the euro was unconstitutional. In his words, this means that he is doing it at someone else's will.
„There is only one country that has declared Bulgaria an enemy country and has an interest in social tension. Because Radev's actions will not lead to a referendum, they will lead to protests, social tension, fear - who has an interest in the destabilization of a European country, of course, that is Russia“, Bozhankov argued.
