A fire has destroyed the historic "Bernaga" monastery in northern Italy, Agence France-Presse and ANSA reported, citing local firefighters.
Twenty-two nuns have been evacuated from the burning building.
Founded in 1628, the monastery in the town of La Valletta Brianza is where Carlo Acutis, the first saint of the millennial generation, received his first communion.
The fire broke out yesterday. The entire building is devastated. The flames destroyed priceless works of art and valuable objects in the building.
According to local authorities, the fire was caused by a short circuit.
