Evgeniy Kanev: With its asymmetric war, Iran is putting pressure on Trump to stop the war - 1

I'm not sure that any deep-thought strategies of the current American administration are worth discussing.

For me, the main thing that drives Trump is to keep the attention of the American public out and push the dossiers out of the front pages of the media.

Iran, Venezuela, Greenland, Iran again. And now bets are even being made on the next target country. Trump himself publicly hinted to Rubio about Cuba as the next target.

Undoubtedly, Trump is greatly facilitated by the other two leaders on whom he is clearly dependent - Netanyahu and Putin.

Because these are practically the only two countries that benefit from American intervention.

Israel - using the strongest army - to deal with its archenemy.

Russia - using Trump as leverage to raise both the price and the number of its customers on the world market. And so - Putin to inject life into the creaking economy. And to stop the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which is about to thwart plans for a new large-scale Russian offensive in the spring.

When you are drowning, you don't care about a close ally like Iran. On the contrary, you are glad that your direct competitors - Iran and Venezuela - for supplies of heavy oil, which most refineries work with - are out of the market. And now their customers rely on Russia. Here, India has received permission from the US to import Russian oil.

In fact - what does the US gain from the war in Iran? If it lasts more than two weeks - nothing. Because it will bring inflation from the oil deficit in the US, the Fed must raise interest rates, which in combination with tariffs, deficits and unpredictable policy - may finally put the US into recession. And so does the world, including Europe, which will also pay a heavy price with Bulgaria.

And will it end in two weeks?

Iran's ability to wage an asymmetric war has clearly been underestimated: it simply threatens (it doesn't even waste missiles!) to fire on every ship from different locations - it stops 20% of the world's oil trade - it causes an economic crisis and inflation - it makes Trump responsible in the eyes of the world. And it puts pressure on him to stop the war. And will the Iranians agree to coordinate their new leader with the US in order to become their vassal?

It seems that now Trump has run out of cards and is looking for Zelensky's trump cards - the Ukrainian drones.

In general - what is the world waiting for while it survives the orange hurricane.
