Borimirov: Levski can become champion - 1

Levski's Executive Director Daniel Borimirov is of the opinion that the "blues" can become champions if it depends entirely on them. He spoke to BNT about Julio Velasquez's new contract, as well as the scandal with Svetoslav Vutsov in the national team.

“Of course, the meeting with Dobrudzha was another success for us. We want to show class, level and grow in every match we play, as we want to please our fans who support us, regardless of whether we are guests or hosts. We always feel like hosts“, were his words in the show "Arena Sport" regarding the victory against Dobrudja in the domestic elite.

Borimirov believes that Lavski has a chance to become a champion. “If it depends entirely on us, I think our chances are great. We see that in the last two matches there is normal refereeing and I hope this continues throughout the season. I think there are quite a few matches until the end of the season. In this line of thought, we will have difficult and tough matches, but if we want to keep the position we currently occupy, we will have to win every one of them. We want to win every single match first, we have talked about it. The position we are in obliges us to fight for the first place. We have the players, a wonderful coach and an even more wonderful audience that is behind us.“

Regarding the work of Julio Velázquez, who extended his contract with the “blues“ for another two years, Borimirov believes that under his leadership the team is developing.

“We are extremely satisfied with his work. Since he arrived on January 6 this year, with his work, the procedures, the discipline, the requirements that he introduced into the team, we see what growth our team has undergone. The icing on the cake is that they were impressed by our match in Varna, when our audience started chanting his name. During this period of 10 months, he managed to change the opinion of many critics, what pleases us is the way Levski plays, it appeals not only to our supporters, but also to other people“, added the boss of the “blues“.

Regarding the situation related to Svetoslav Vutsov, who temporarily withdrew from the national team, Borimirov believes that now “the ball“ is in the BFU.

„We learned about Svetislav Vutsov's problems in the national teams from the position of Bozhidar Mitrev (retired - goalkeeper coach at Levski). I want to say that the club fully stands behind both of them, since we managed to gather information about what happened. The meeting we had at the BFU was more of an informational one and aimed at exchanging the points of view of both parties. The ball is entirely in the hands of the Bulgarian Football Union and I hope they make the important and correct decision. I think that the BFU should conduct its own investigation based on the information it has received. This situation does not affect Vutsov, we saw him concentrated after this meeting in the match with Cherno More, and against Dobrudzha, when he showed his qualities. I cannot say what the correct decision on the part of the BFU is, because I am not familiar with the information that is flowing between Georgi Ivanov and the coaches. The decision on Vutsov's possible return to the national team will be made after it is clear what they have taken from the BFU,“ he added.
