Lens return to top of Ligue 1 with impressive win - 1

Florian Thauvin scored one goal and made two assists, while Odsonne Edouard scored twice for Lens' success against visiting Angers 5-1 in a match from the 27th round of the French football championship. Thus, the team overtook Paris Saint-Germain and returned to the top of Ligue 1, BTA reported.

Lens are aiming for a first title since 1998, but their challenge has failed in recent weeks with losses to Lorient and Monaco. However, the team made its intentions clear with a convincing victory over Angers, who have lost five of their last six league matches.

Thauvin opened the scoring in the 13th minute with his fourth goal in six matches. He then passed to Edouard to make it 2-0. Mamadou Sangare added the third goal just before the break. Edouard made it 4-0 three minutes into the second half after receiving a perfect pass from Thauvin. Although Lanroy Machin pulled one back for Angers 14 minutes later, it was little more than a consolation. Mathieu Udol restored Lens' lead with a fifth goal.

The result gave the hosts a two-point lead over PSG, who have played two games less. Angers are 12th with 32, well out of contention for a European place but well above the relegation zone.
