Malena Zamfirova is now doing well and is much better. This was revealed by the acting Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Mihail Okoliyski, in the BNT program "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov".

Our snowboarding star suffered a serious accident in which she was hit by a skier on March 3 during the World Cup weekend in Špindlerův Mlýn, Czech Republic.

Malena's condition was serious and she had to undergo several surgical interventions, including on her femur and shoulder blade.

"I spoke to her father yesterday, she is much better, she is doing well now. There are no torn ligaments or meniscus. Rehabilitation at the highest level is coming, like Lindsey Vonn, so that she can return to the track, because she is a young girl," said Assoc. Prof. Okoliyski.

"We propose to pay for the treatment and then, where it is assessed by the treating doctors, Bulgaria will be on hand with all its resources, rehabilitation, clinics, etc., this will be absolutely free for Malena's family," added the Minister of Health.

"Here I want to say that there was incredible coordination of actions with the President of the Republic, Mrs. Yotova, with the Ministry of Sports, with the National Health Insurance Fund, which immediately issued a form so that this treatment, these operations, could be paid for. Anatoly and I have agreed to come to the Ministry and see what else is needed and to start a fight against gambling addiction, he has promised to engage Tervel, who will become one of the faces of the campaign", explained Assoc. Prof. Okoliyski.

"We had spoken with Malena and Tervel. Now that Malena is cured, she can also get involved. But such messages are mainly aimed at young people, because there are young athletes, football players, who think that betting on matches is part of sport. And according to all kinds of scientific studies, this kills any joy from sports, because you follow the result to see if it will work out for you. And we must start fighting such misconceptions so that Bulgarian young people, who are currently terribly addicted to gambling, can be less addicted," added Minister Okoliyski.
