Swiss sets new world record in heptathlon  - 1

Swiss Simon Ehammer broke the world record in the heptathlon set by American Ashton Eaton from 2012 at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland.

Ehammer showed that he is in excellent shape in the first events, running 6.69 seconds in the 60 meters and recording 8.15 meters in the long jump. In the next two events, he has 14.87 in the shot put and 2.02 in the high jump. On the second day, the Swiss set a world record in the 60 meters hurdles as part of the heptathlon with 7.52, and then topped the standings in the pole vault with 5.30. So before the last 1000 meters event, Ehammer already had a real chance and with 2:41.04 minutes collected 6670 points.

The old world record was also achieved at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in 2012 by Eaton with 6645 points.

The runner-up was Helt Baldwin (USA) with 6337 points, and his compatriot Aile Garland was third with 6245 points.

Ehammer also received a $50,000 bonus from the World Athletics for the record in addition to the $40,000 bonus for first place.
