Ilya Malinin takes third world title - 1

American Ilya Malinin has once again established himself at the top of men's figure skating after winning his third world title and leaving behind the disappointment of eighth place at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, BTA reports. Malinin arrived at the championships in Prague with ambitions for revenge and justified it after receiving 218.11 points for his free program. He performed five of the planned seven quadruple jumps, and the remaining two were triples - an axel and a flip, which brought him a total of 329.40 points.

The silver medal was won by Japan's Yuma Kagiyama, who made an impressive jump from sixth place after the short program to second with 306.67 points, thanks to a clean and elegant performance to music from “Turandot“ Puccini.

The bronze medal went to another Japanese representative - Shun Sato, who collected 288.54 points.

Despite his success, Malinin was unable to improve his own world record of 238.24 points in the free program, set in the Grand Prix final in December, when he performed seven quadruple jumps, including the unique quadruple Axel. In Prague, he again failed to perform this element, which had caused him problems at the Olympics, but solid execution of the remaining jumps proved to be enough for the title.
