Sabalenka beats Gauff to win Miami title - 1

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defended her title at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. In the final match, she defeated American Coco Gauff 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 after just over two hours of play.

With this success, Sabalenka joined an elite group of tennis players who have won the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami consecutively, becoming only the fifth with such an achievement.

The Belarusian tennis player, who reached the final without dropping a set, demonstrated stability on serve, winning 73% of her points on the first serve. On the way to the title, she gave her rivals only two opportunities to break. Her victory also has symbolic significance, as it is somewhat a rematch for the lost final of “Roland Garros“ in 2025, against Gauff.

In the first set, Sabalenka asserted her superiority with two breaks and won 6:2. Gauff reacted in the second part, where she managed to make a key breakthrough in the tenth game and tied after 6:4. In the decisive third set, however, Sabalenka took control again, took an early lead and closed the match with another breakthrough for the final 6:3.

This is her second consecutive title in Miami, making her the first tennis player with a similar achievement after Ashleigh Barty in 2019 and 2021.
