Will there be changes to the rules in Formula 1 after Bearman's serious crash? - 1

Oliver Bearman's serious crash during the Japanese Grand Prix has sparked serious debate about the new technical rules in Formula 1 for the 2026 season. The incident, after which the young Haas F1 Team driver was left visibly shaken and in pain, was identified by many in the paddock as a direct consequence of controversial FIA regulations related to energy management and the large differences in speed between the cars.

Bearman himself admitted that such a scenario had been expected and discussed even before the race. “As a group, we warned the FIA what could happen. This is a result of the huge difference in speeds - something we have never seen before in sport”, he commented after the examination at the medical center. His position was supported by drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, who also expressed concerns about safety under the new conditions.

In an official statement, the FIA acknowledged that the new regulations - especially those related to energy management - allow for some "optimization" but has so far refused to make any immediate changes. Instead, the federation is planning a series of meetings in April to discuss whether adjustments are needed.

Although Bearman escaped without serious injury, the pain and shock he experienced underscore the risks drivers are taking in the new era of the sport. "We have a month's break and I will come back stronger. The most important thing is that I am fine, although it was a really scary moment," he said, not forgetting to apologize to his mechanics for the damage to the car.
