Victoria Tomova successfully passed the qualifications and secured a place in the main draw of the WTA 500 clay court tournament in Charleston with a prize fund of 2.3 million dollars. The Bulgarian, seeded No. 6 in the seedings, prevailed in the second round over American Ayana Ackley 3:6, 6:1, 6:1 after a two-hour battle, BTA reports.
Tomova started unconvincingly and lost the first set, after conceding two breaks. In the second part, however, she raised her level, took an early lead in the score and tied with a convincing series. In the decisive third set, she imposed complete control and after four consecutive games closed the match in her favor.
With her success, the Bulgarian guaranteed her participation in the main draw and added 25 points to her world ranking, where she currently occupies 163rd place.
