Alexander Zverev reached the final of the Masters 1000 Madrid tournament after defeating the sensation of the competition Alexander Bloks 6:2, 7:5 in an hour and 37 minutes of play, BTA reports. The two-time champion in the Spanish capital secured a place in the dispute for the trophy, where he will face Yannick Sinner.
Zverev completely controlled the first set, in which he realized two breaks and quickly built a solid lead. In the second part, the German met far more serious resistance from the Belgian, but in the decisive moments he managed to impose his class and end the match in two sets.
„I am very happy to be in the final here again. I had tough matches on the way here and I am looking forward to another clash with Yannick. He is playing incredible tennis at the moment and is certainly the best in the world, but I will try to make it as difficult as possible for him“, said Zverev after the victory.
The 29-year-old German, who triumphed in Madrid in 2018 and 2021, broke early in the match and quickly took a 5-1 lead. Alexander Bloks managed to save three set points in the next game, but Zverev closed the set with a powerful serve and an ace.
The second set was significantly more contested. The Belgian, who eliminated defending champion Kasper Ruud in the quarterfinals, demonstrated confidence and stability on serve. However, Zverev waited for his chance at 6-5, when he won a decisive break after a shot that ricocheted into the net, and then easily ended the match on his own serve.
