The 8 Deadly Long-Range Weapons Developed by Ukraine Since the War - 1

Last week, Ukraine struck the Russian port of Novorossiysk, forcing it to halt oil exports. The "Neptune" missile used is one of several long-range weapons Ukraine has developed since the 2022 invasion, Reuters reports.

Here's a look at some of these new Ukrainian weapons, based on statements from Kiev:

"Long Neptune"

Ukraine claims the domestically made Long Neptune is a ground-based attack cruise missile with a range of up to 1,000km. It is based on the shorter-range Neptune anti-ship missile that existed before the invasion.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced its increased range in March. On Friday, the Ukrainian military said it had been used to strike Novorossiysk, Russia's largest Black Sea export hub. Ukraine says it is producing more of the missiles.

"Flamingo"

"Flamingo", also known as the FP-5, is a new land-based land-attack cruise missile that Zelensky claims has a range of 3,000 kilometers. He described it as Ukraine's most successful missile and said it should enter mass production by the end of the year. It is manufactured by Fire Point, a private Ukrainian defense company.

In October, Zelensky said that the "Flamingo" was used against Russian targets, but did not give details.

"Lyuty"

The "Lyuty" long-range, propeller-driven, single-engine strike drone is the workhorse for Ukraine's deep strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure this year. The drone, manufactured by aircraft manufacturer "Antonov", can fly more than 1,000 km.

FP-1

The long-range kamikaze drone FP-1, manufactured by Fire Point, is also mass-produced for deep strikes on targets in Russia and also has a range of over 1,000 km.

"Palyanitsa"

The first combat use of the "drone missile" "Palyanitsa" was announced by Zelensky in August 2024. In October, the president said that the weapon, named after a type of Ukrainian bread, had hit Russian ammunition depots on dozens of occasions.

The Ukrainian defense publication "Voenen" reported that it has a range of 650 km and a turbojet engine that allows it to fly at 900 km/h - much faster than a regular drone.

"Ruta"

"Ruta" is another "drone missile" that Zelensky said he expects to enter mass production by the end of the year. In October, he reported that it had been used for the first time to hit an offshore platform at a range of over 250 km.

"Hell"

"Hell" - the Ukrainian word for "hell", is another "drone missile". Zelensky said in December 2024 that the first batch of the weapons had been delivered to the Ukrainian army. The Ukrainian publication Defence Express estimates its range at around 700 km.

"Bars"

"Bars" - the Ukrainian term for "leopard", is a newer unmanned aerial vehicle missile whose existence was revealed in April 2025. Last week, the Ukrainian military said it had been used by Ukraine to attack Russian targets.
