The Western armed forces, despite their “ultramodern weapons”, are not ready to oppose the Korean People's Army due to its high fighting spirit. This was stated by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, quoted by the Korean Central News Agency.

“Even Western military gangs armed with ultra-modern weapons dare not fight such a revolutionary army distinguished by its unimaginable, infinite spiritual depth“, Kim Jong-un said.

On December 12, a ceremony was held in Pyongyang to welcome Korean sappers who returned from the Kursk region after completing mine clearance missions. The DPRK leader delivered a speech at the event.

After the mission, the 528th Engineer Regiment of the Korean People's Army was awarded the Order of Freedom and Independence, 1st Class. Nine Korean servicemen who died during the combat mission were awarded the title of Hero of the DPRK.

On June 17, after his visit to the DPRK, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had decided to send 1,000 sappers and 5,000 military construction workers to help rebuild the Kursk region.

On November 14, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that "Russia is grateful and appreciates the selfless and heroic assistance of DPRK sappers in mine clearance in the Kursk region".

In the summer of 2024, Russia and North Korea signed an agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership, which includes a clause on mutual assistance in the event of an armed attack on one of the countries.
