Ukrainians are losing faith in the US and NATO! They are ready to fight alone against Russia - 1

Three-quarters of Ukrainians reject major concessions in a possible peace agreement, Reuters reports, citing a Kiev-based sociologist.

The data underscores the challenge that President Volodymyr Zelensky faces as he negotiates under pressure from the White House to end the war with Russia.

Ukraine is seeking to abandon the initial US-backed plan, which it and its European allies see as favorable to Moscow. It demands that Kiev give up its entire eastern Donbas region and significantly limit its military capabilities.

The survey, conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology, found that 72% of Ukrainians are ready for a deal that freezes the current front line and includes some compromises.

In exchange for Western security guarantees

However, 75% believe that a Russia-friendly plan that involves Ukraine giving up territory or limiting the size of its army without receiving clear security guarantees is "completely unacceptable".

The survey was conducted between late November and mid-December and included 547 respondents from Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Anton Hrushetsky, executive director of the Kiev International Institute of Sociology, said, that public opinion on the issue has remained stable in recent months amid growing pressure from the United States.

63% of Ukrainians are ready to continue fighting, while only 9% believe the war will end in early 2026.

US President Donald Trump is urging Ukraine to quickly secure peace in the nearly four-year war while a larger and better-armed Russian army fights on the battlefield.

Kiev and its European allies are seeking security guarantees from Washington as part of a possible deal. Zelensky said yesterday that Ukraine would give up its NATO ambitions in return.

However, only 21% of Ukrainians trust Washington - compared to 41% last December. Trust in NATO also fell to 34% from 43% over the same period.

"If security guarantees are not unambiguous and binding, Ukrainians will not trust them, and this will affect the general willingness to approve the corresponding peace plan," Grushetsky wrote.

In addition, Trump renewed his call for elections in Ukraine, which are prohibited by martial law.

Zelensky, whose first term expired last year, signaled this month that he would be open to new elections if the United States could take the lead in providing security.

Yet only 9% of Ukrainians want elections before the fighting ends, the survey found.

Trust in Zelensky may have fallen after a major corruption scandal last month, but is now back at 61% after the dismissal of his top aide and renewed pressure from The United States, noted Grushetsky.

"Therefore, the insistence on elections in Ukraine is perceived critically by the public and is seen as an attempt to weaken the country," he added.
