Tucker Carlson: Donald Trump may soon declare war on Venezuela - 1

In an interview, journalist Tucker Carlson claims that a member of Congress told him that President Donald Trump is declaring "an imminent war" tonight.

Carlson discussed the rising tensions with Venezuela over strikes on suspected drug-smuggling ships on the podcast Judging Freedom, as well as Trump's State of the Union address scheduled for tonight.

Carlson said members of Congress have been briefed on Trump's plans.

Carlson opposes military action in Venezuela, arguing that it would be a repeat of past foreign policy mistakes.

"As far as I know, there has not been an attempt at regime change in the last 80 years that has been beneficial to the United States or the world," he said.

Trump has repeatedly accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of running a narco-terrorist smuggling operation. Maduro's election victory has long been disputed, with U.S. and international officials questioning the results.

"The illegitimate Maduro regime is using the oil from these stolen oil fields to fund itself, narco-terrorism, human trafficking, assassinations and kidnappings. For the theft of our assets and many other reasons, including terrorism, drug smuggling and human trafficking, the Venezuelan regime has been designated a FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION," Trump announced this week.

The president also took aim at Colombian President Gustavo Petro, responding to his criticism of the recent boat strikes, warning him that he could soon have "big problems".

"He's going to have big problems if he doesn't come to his senses," Trump told reporters. Did he say Colombia produces a lot of drugs? They have cocaine factories that produce cocaine, as you know, and sell it directly into the United States. So he better come to his senses, or he'll be next."
