President Donald Trump's chief of staff, Susie Wiles, made controversial comments about American politics and in particular, about the American president, comparing him to an alcoholic in an interview with Vanity Fair. Shortly after the interview was published, a scandal broke out, Focus writes.
Susie Wiles - Trump's right-hand man
Journalist Chris Whipple from Vanity Fair claims that he interviewed Wiles during every crisis moment in the Trump administration, including in an informal setting. He claims to have recordings of these conversations, which discuss every decision Trump has made in office since the beginning of his second term.
''Historically, the White House chief of staff has been the gatekeeper, confidant, and executor of the president's agenda. That often means telling the president the hard truth. (...) The question about Wiles' tenure with Trump is whether she can do anything to stop him. The better question is whether she wants to?''- says the Vanity Fair article
According to the journalist, Wiles has stopped the "palace intrigue" and helped form a government composed of MAGA hardliners. She has worked with Trump every day for the fifth year in a row. Wiles prefers to stay in the shadows. This is how she managed to become the architect of Trump's victory in the 2024 elections. Moreover, she is the first woman to head the White House staff.
The interview with Wiles consists of two parts and is based on several long conversations between Whipple and the chief of staff. In it, she talks not only about the people in the administration, but also about the Epstein files, as well as the cases that Trump has filed against his political opponents. According to Wiles, Donald Trump has an attitude that nothing can stand against him and that he can do anything. Of course, she knows the president well. According to her, this helps her work with Trump, who is now in his ninth year of his career. In the interview, she states that Trump has an “alcoholic personality“ and adds that he “operates with the belief that there is nothing he cannot do”. Of the vice president, Vance says she has been a fan of conspiracy theories for decades. "He's a weird, weird bird, the way I think geniuses are," Wiles says.
She emphasizes that these behaviors are nothing new to her. In fact, they remind her of her own interactions with her father, the famous sports commentator Pat Summerall, who she claims was an alcoholic.
"Some clinical psychologist who knows a million times more than I do would dispute what I'm about to say. But high-functioning alcoholics, or alcoholics in general, their personalities get big when they drink. So I'm a bit of an expert on big personalities."
Of Musk, she says, "He's a heavy ketamine user. And he sleeps in a sleeping bag in the executive office building during the day." Musk is hard to follow, he is a complete independent contractor. But he is a genius, although that does not make him any easier to talk to.
The parallel with alcohol and Trump did not sit well with the White House. Wiles herself denies saying such a thing during the interviews. She believes the article was intended to smear his team.
''The article published this morning is a dishonestly fabricated attack on me, the best president, the White House staff and the Cabinet in history. Important context was ignored, and much of what I and others said about the team and the president was removed from the article. After reading the article, I assume that this was done with the aim of creating an extremely chaotic and negative picture of the president and our team, '' wrote Wiles on the social network X.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt also commented on the published article in a similar way.
"Wells helped President Trump achieve the most successful first 11 months in office of any president in American history. President Trump has no better or more dedicated advisor than Susie. The entire administration is grateful for her stable leadership and fully supports her,“ writes the BBC.
