US President Donald Trump will make a statement, the topic of which has not yet been announced, at 4:30 p.m. Eastern time /02.30 Bulgarian time/, together with Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy Secretary John Phelan.

This is according to the US President's schedule, published by the White House press service on December 21.

“The President will make a statement with the Secretary of War and the Secretary of the Navy“, the document notes. Trump will speak in Florida, where his Mar-a-Lago estate is located. According to media reports, the US leader is expected to be there for the winter holidays.

Meanwhile, Trump has appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as the US Special Envoy for Greenland.

“I am pleased to announce that I am appointing the excellent Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, as the US Special Envoy for Greenland. Jeff understands that Greenland is vital to our national security and will vigorously defend our country's interests for the safety and survival of our allies and indeed the entire world,“ the president wrote on Truth Social.

On March 13, Trump expressed confidence that his country would annex Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. On March 4, he announced that he would support the islanders' decision to join the US. The White House has repeatedly said that Greenland should join the US. He has threatened to impose high trade tariffs on Denmark if it does not give up the island. During his first term as president, Trump proposed purchasing Greenland. The Danish and Greenlandic authorities rejected the idea.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. In 1951, Washington and Copenhagen, in addition to their NATO obligations, signed the Greenland Defense Treaty. Under it, the United States pledged to defend the island from aggression.
