Russian air defense forces shot down a drone flying towards Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram. Emergency services are working at the scene.
Airspace restrictions were imposed in the Domodedovo area overnight; the airport is accepting and sending planes in coordination with relevant authorities.
Ukrainian media reported explosions in several regions of the country amid air raid sirens. Explosions were reported overnight in Chernihiv. Explosions then occurred in Zaporizhia.
According to the online map of the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, air raid sirens are sounding in the part of Zaporizhia Oblast and part of Chernihiv Oblast controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Ukrainian General Staff has acknowledged the loss of Seversk in Donbas nearly two weeks after the Russian army captured the city.
“We have withdrawn from the settlement“, the Telegram post said.
The city is of crucial importance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as its capture would allow Russian troops to advance from the northeast towards the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. It is affecting the Russian army's efforts in the Konstantinovka area, which, along with Druzhkovka, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, forms the most important line of defense for Ukrainian troops in the occupied part of the DPR.
According to military expert Andrey Marochko, Russian forces have advanced 800 meters west of Seversk in two days.
The sarcophagus of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant could collapse in the event of a new strike, the plant's director Sergei Tarakanov told AFP, according to France 24.
In early 2025, an attack caused a hole in the sarcophagus. Tarakanov said that full restoration could take three to four years and warned that another strike could lead to the collapse of the inner shell.
„If a missile or drone hits it directly or even lands somewhere nearby, this will cause a mini-earthquake in the area. No one can guarantee that the protective structure will survive. This is the main threat“, Tarakanov warned.
He added that radiation levels at the facility remained “stable and within normal limits“.
The New Safe Confinement (NSC), colloquially known as the sarcophagus, is a vaulted structure erected over Unit 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was destroyed in the 1986 accident. It was completed and put into operation in 2019. The structure covers the outdated “Shelter“ – the sarcophagus for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP), whose expected service life was approaching the end of the project's completion.
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) is located on the banks of the Pripyat River, near the city of the same name in the Kiev region, abandoned by its residents immediately after the accident in 1986.
