Vucic under fire! Thousands of Serbs have signed a petition demanding early parliamentary elections - 1

Thousands in Serbia have signed a petition demanding early parliamentary elections be scheduled, BTA reports.

The initiators of the petition are protesting students.

The action in the Serbian capital Belgrade is taking place in several places, where stands with specially made ballots are located, which anyone who wishes can fill out and drop into a transparent ballot box.

A 45-year-old mother of a first-year student said that she wants early parliamentary elections to be held so that her son can have a future in Serbia. She pointed out that with President Aleksandar Vucic at the helm, there is only pressure, poverty and a lack of democracy.

"I have been protesting for as long as I can remember, my children too, their children too. It has been 25 years since the fall of (Slobodan) Milosevic, and this country has still not permanently established the rules of democracy", pointed out 65-year-old Jovan Dragsic.

"Elections, we need new elections, new faces, we need democrats", 25-year-old Jelena Vasic was also categorical. She noted that a kind of referendum is being held today to show that the majority of Serbs want change through an early vote.

The initiative for today's signature was supported in Belgrade by many famous personalities, as well as by the rector of the University of Belgrade, Prof. Vladan Jokic.

The signature for scheduling elections is being held in over 500 locations in 100 municipalities throughout the country, and the final number of signatories will be announced later.
