California Governor Gavin Newsom of the Democratic Party sharply criticized European leaders today for "giving in" to US President Donald Trump's attempts to seize Greenland, DPA reported.
"It's just pathetic", Newsom told the British television "Sky News" at the World Economic Forum in Davos. "I hope people understand how pathetic they look on the world stage," he added.
Speaking of the US president, Newsom said: "This guy is making fun of people and it's shameful."
Newsom, considered a likely Democratic nominee for the 2028 presidential election, described Trump as a Tyrannosaurus rex.
"I should have brought some knee pads for all the world leaders," he said, wryly about the way European leaders have treated Trump over the Greenland issue.
"It's time to stand up. It's time to get serious and stop being complicit. It's time to stand up, to have a strong position and to be brave and decisive," Newsom concluded.
