US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law - Jared Kushner, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin's Special Envoy for Investment and Economic Cooperation Kirill Dmitriev said that their meeting in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, which took place outside the current edition of the World Economic Forum, regarding a possible future peace agreement was "very positive" and "constructive", Reuters reported.

The United States has recently held talks with Russia, and separately with Kiev and European leaders, to end the war in Ukraine, but no agreement has yet been reached, despite Trump's repeated promises to conclude one.

Ukraine's European allies, currently preoccupied with Trump's threats to acquire Greenland from Denmark, are concerned that Washington may ask Kiev to accept territorial concessions.

"The dialogue is constructive and more and more people understand the justice of the Russian position," Dmitriev said after his conversation with Witkoff and Kushner at "USA House" in Davos.

"We had a very positive meeting," Witkoff said, quoted by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

The meeting between envoys from Washington and Moscow lasted two hours, said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

At stake are how to end Europe's deadliest war since World War II, the future of Ukraine, the extent to which European powers are excluded from the process and whether a peace deal brokered by the United States will hold up, Reuters notes.
