Romanians are divided on the issue of membership in Trump's Peace Council - 1

Romanians are divided on the issue of membership in the Peace Council, according to the latest Avangard sociological survey conducted in January and dedicated to foreign policy, Digi24 TV reports. According to the published data, 44 percent believe that their country should have joined the initiative of US President Donald Trump, 36 percent are of the opposite opinion, and 20 percent do not give a clear answer, BTA reported.

The Peace Council is part of a plan by the US administration to create a larger international body for mediation in global conflicts. It will deal with issues such as strengthening governance, regional relations, reconstruction, attracting investment, financing and mobilizing capital for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Romania received an invitation to join a week ago. However, the head of state, Nikusor Dan, did not give a clear answer, but announced that he would analyze the possible consequences in depth. He was not at the Economic Forum in Davos either.

According to 69 percent of those surveyed, Nikusor Dan should have participated, while 22 percent held the opposite opinion.

However, only 16 percent of the survey participants approve of the Romanian president's foreign policy activities. Thirty-four percent say they are not satisfied, and 21 percent say they are not at all satisfied with it. A quarter take a neutral position.

When it comes to trust in international organizations, 62 percent say they trust NATO more, 50 percent the UN, and 50 percent the EU.

In a situation where Romania is attacked militarily by Russia, 60 percent of respondents believe that NATO would protect the country, while 27 percent do not think so.
