Russia has expressed serious concern over US and Israeli strikes near the Bushehr nuclear power plant, warning that such actions could lead to "irreparable consequences", reported "Reuters".
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow had already expressed its concerns to Washington and stressed that attacks on nuclear facilities were "potentially extremely dangerous".
"We believe that strikes on nuclear facilities are extremely risky. The Russian side has repeatedly expressed its concern," Peskov said.
According to him, the conflict over Iran should have be directed towards a political and diplomatic solution, which, according to Moscow, remains the only way to de-escalate the "catastrophically tense situation" in the region.
On March 17, the state corporation Rosatom announced that an attack had been carried out in the immediate vicinity of facilities at the plant site - in the area of the metrological service building located next to the operating power unit.
Moscow condemned the attack and called for an immediate reduction in tension around the nuclear infrastructure, warning that such actions could have serious consequences not only for the region, but also on a global scale.
