US President Donald Trump appears determined to reach a deal with Iran to end hostilities in the Middle East, three senior Israeli officials said, quoted by "Reuters".
They said Washington is seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict, but there is serious skepticism in Tel Aviv that Tehran will accept the US terms. According to the sources, they are likely to include restrictions on Iran's nuclear and missile programs.
The talks between the two countries collapsed on February 28, as the military escalation between the United States, Israel and Iran began. However, Trump said on social media that "very good and productive talks" had been held for "a complete and final cessation of hostilities".
However, Tehran denied that any negotiations had taken place.
The US president's position was also confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who stated that, according to Trump, there is a possibility that the achieved military results can be used as the basis for an agreement that would guarantee Israel's strategic interests.
