Tehran denies Trump's claims of wanting a deal to end the war in the Middle East - 1

A spokesman for the Iranian armed forces has rejected claims by US President Donald Trump that Tehran is seeking an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East, the Associated Press reports. According to him, the United States is in effect “negotiating with itself“, BTA reports.

Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a representative of the general command of the Iranian armed forces, made the statement in a pre-recorded video broadcast on state television.

In his speech, he sharply criticized the United States, saying that its claimed strategic power has turned into a failure. According to him, a country that defines itself as a world superpower could get out of the situation if it had real opportunities, and should not present a possible defeat as a diplomatic agreement.

Zolfaghari also questioned the domestic political situation in the US, asking whether it had reached a point where Washington was “negotiating with itself“.

His statement came shortly after the Trump administration sent Iran a 15-point proposal for a ceasefire.

The Iranian representative stressed that the country's position has remained unchanged since the beginning of the conflict and categorically excludes the possibility of an agreement with the US - “neither now nor in the future“.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had launched missiles and drones at northern and central parts of Israel, including the Tel Aviv area. According to Agence France-Presse, strikes were also carried out on military bases used by the US in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan.

Earlier, Kuwaiti authorities reported a fire at the international airport after a fuel tank was hit by a drone. No injuries were reported.
