Police in Slovakia have launched an investigation into Prime Minister Robert Fico, said Branislav Groling, leader of the opposition party “Freedom and Solidarity“ (SaS), iDen.sk reports.
He said the investigation is related to Fico's decision to cut off emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. “A month ago, I filed a police report against Robert Fico on charges of treason and other crimes,“ Groling said.
The report was supported by over 13,000 citizens, he added.
The opposition suspects the prime minister of abuse of power and treason. “I am convinced that Robert Fico is suspected of committing serious crimes. "I highly appreciate that both the prosecutor's office and the police are taking action and are not keeping quiet about this issue," the SaS leader added.
In February, Fico announced that the country would cut off emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. He cited the interruption of oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline as the reason.
In March, Ukrenergo announced that the Slovak operator SEPS would terminate its emergency electricity supply agreement with Ukraine in May.
