Iran announced the mobilization of one million fighters to counter a US ground operation on Iranian soil. This was reported by Middle East Monitor.
Tehran is focused on defending the strategic Kharg Island, from where nearly 90% of Iran's oil is exported.
Iran's Tasnim News Agency, citing a military source, indicated that as speculation about the "historical stupidity" of the US participating in ground combat operations on Iran's southern front grows, a wave of enthusiasm has swept the country's ground forces, which are ready to create "historical hell" for US forces on Iranian soil.
In addition to the million-strong ground force already equipped for combat operations, the military source noted a huge surge in applications from Iranian youth in recent days. Volunteers are flooding recruitment centers for the Basij paramilitary forces, the Revolutionary Guard Corps and the regular army, eager to participate in the expected conflict.
The military source added that any US attempt to forcefully open the Strait of Hormuz would be an act of "suicide." He said Iran was fully prepared for such an escalation and remained committed to keeping the strategic waterway closed.
