Any military action in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to its complete closure for an indefinite period, a senior Iranian security source warned.
„Any military operation by the enemy in the Strait of Hormuz will lead to a complete blockade for an indefinite period. "If the US decides to launch a ground offensive against Iran, Tehran will have the full right to a completely symmetrical response to eliminate the threat," he was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.
The warning comes amid a report in The Wall Street Journal about the Pentagon's plans to send approximately 10,000 troops to the Middle East, in addition to the 5,000 Marines and several thousand paratroopers already deployed in the region. Bloomberg, citing its sources, claims that Washington has no immediate plans to launch a ground operation in Iran, but notes that US President Donald Trump could change his mind.
