The US Navy's amphibious assault ship "Tripoli" has arrived in the Middle East, Central Command announced.
„The „America"-class amphibious assault ship is the flagship of the combat-capable landing group “Tripoli“, part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, which consists of approximately 3,500 sailors and marines, as well as transport and strike fighters, airborne and tactical assets,“ said in a post on the social media platform X.
In mid-March, the Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, reported that the Japan-based “Tripoli“ and the marines on board were heading to the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region.
Many experts link this to a possible operation to seize the Iranian island of Kharg, a maritime hub in the Persian Gulf where the country's oil infrastructure is located. The US and Israeli operation against the Islamic Republic has been ongoing for a month. All the while, the two sides have been exchanging blows.
Yesterday, an Iranian security source said Tehran had no plans to stop hostilities and was ready to step up attacks.
