The European naval mission “Aspides“ has warned that Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels could attack merchant ships in the Red Sea and the eastern Gulf of Aden, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Ships in the area could become targets of attacks, the EU mission, which is based in the city of Larissa in Greece, said, urging shipping companies whose vessels are in the region to exercise particular caution.

The warning comes after Yemeni Houthi rebels resumed missile attacks on Israel yesterday in an attempt to support Iran in the conflict in the Middle East.

Shipping traffic through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden may also be at risk, and vessels affiliated with Israel or the United States should avoid transiting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden if possible, the statement from “Aspides“ also said.
